The national household survey collected a wide range of health data from over 11 000 households around the country during 2016.
The survey includes essential demographic indicators such as:
- information about maternal, new-born and child health
- HIV and sexual behaviour
- management of non-communicable diseases as well as the status of violence against women in the country
The survey was conducted by a partnership between the National Department of Health (NDoH), Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) and the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) with technical support from ICF through the DHS Program of the United States Agency for International Development(USAID).
